Le Carline, Lison Classico 2010

This year is the first time that producers of 'Lison', the wine made from the tocai grape, now renamed Tai, can put the highest level of quality, DOCG, on their bottles. Like most, Le Carline, wanted something special. The new label represents not only the quality that is made from this area, located 40 minutes east of Venice, but a new adventure in the production of an ancient wine. Experimenting with the fermentation and maceration times, like leaving the wine in contact for a longer period with the skins, led to a wine with a more distinct flavor. Fresh notes of balsamic, mint and sage, not typical to this grape type were present and intriguing. Lemon, pear, macintosh apple and grapefruit, all participated in the variety of fruits present and balanced out the slightly salty sent. Crisp and clean, the palate was cleared nicely after just a sip. Full and round, this wine surpassed our expectations and that which is typically expected of a Lison wine. We love this wine not only for its taste, but also for the fact that no sulfites were added, meaning no headache after devouring a bottle!
