Maso Martis Brut Riserva

This sparkler was definately not what I was expecting. During our Italian sparkling wine night and tapas, this Brut Riserva by Maso Martis came into the mix. A full bouquet of flowers and ripe fruits like pear, it turns out that the taste is a bit sweeter than most champagne styled wines. Not that it was bad, but maybe it would be better served as an after or pre dinner drink or with raw fish as recommended by the azienda. Vanilla was the main subject on our pallate, reminding us of resemblences like cream soda and vanilla waffer cookies. Grown and produced in Trento, the mix is 70% Pinot grigio, 25% Chardonnay and 5% Pinot Meunier. The bubbles were fine and persistant and overall this is a wine of optimum quality, a brilliant golden color and is well rounded and balanced. Trento Doc the upcoming region of classic method sparkling wines has a lot to offer and is slowing becoming as well recognized as its famous rival Champagne. With a wider range of flavors, for example this Brut by Masi Martis, we're looking forward to see where these wines can take us.

Pesce e piatti estivi. Da abusarne!!!
